Doing it differently…The Fr Bob Maguire Foundation
Inspired by the lifetime work of one of Australia’s genuine heroes, the outspoken South Melbourne parish priest, Fr Bob Maguire, this is a foundation connected to the very fibre of our community and its most pressing social issues.
The mission is simple; to provide material, emotional and social support to whomever, whenever and wherever necessary.
From street kids, to families ravaged by unemployment, drugs or violence, to the severely disadvantaged people that society has deemed ‘futile’, this foundation is about targeting real needs with very real action.
Neither pretty nor glamorous, its approach is often ‘last resort’, providing a safety net to catch the young and disenfranchised the old and disadvantaged, and those who defy all charity profiles.
Inspired by Fr Bob and connected to some of Australia’s most progressive and effective charitable enterprises, The Fr Bob Maguire Foundation is ultimately the engine room to the funding and support needed to do what’s necessary.
Currently, the Foundation assists such charities as:
- Open Family Australia – founded by Fr Bob 30 years ago to provide hope and reconnection to children living on Australian streets.
- Emerald Hill Mission – a broad reaching charity for the disadvantaged in and around Melbourne, including; a drop-in open house, practical assistance to families and individuals, social functions and a mission to the prisons.
- Beyond Care – a charity to battle the indifference of society to the ‘no hopers’, the damaged survivors who are considered beyond the care of other charities.
All through its efforts, the over riding principle is for the Fr Bob MaguireFoundation to ensure practical help is directed to the areas of most need at any given time.
